Mental Health

School-aged children across Arkansas are experiencing more challenges to mental health than ever before. In an effort to support school districts with engaging parents in this topic, the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) will host the Family Mental Health Night event. The ADE, in partnership with the Cook Center for Human Connection, ARConnectNow, and Arkansas Trauma Resource Initiative for Schools (TRIS), will host this FREE, one-hour, virtual event. This event will introduce parents, students, and educators to free resources to support youth mental-health concerns. This event will also provide a forum for participants to ask questions anonymously. This FREE, one-hour, virtual event occurs on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, from 6:00-7:00 pm.

The Family Mental Health Night event will feature special guest Dr. Sufna John, a leading clinical psychologist at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences and clinical director of TRIS, who specializes in infant and early childhood mental health and inter-generational trauma. Participants are encouraged to ask questions of Dr. John. Participants will also learn about free resources from the Cook Center for Human Connection and ARConnectNow.

The success of this event is reliant on district promotion among parents and community members. In order for the ADE to determine interest in participating and promoting this event, district registration is encouraged. Once registered, each district will receive a link to access promotional materials to advertise the event for the community. Promotional materials will include the participant link on event flyers and prepared, social-media posts that can be downloaded and distributed.
