Guy-Perkins, AR — Dr. Joe Fisher, Superintendent of the Guy-Perkins School District, and Penny Howard, Elementary School Counselor, have recently completed the National Community Crisis Response Team Training Certification through the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA). This certification required 48 hours of intensive training preparing Fisher and Howard to provide critical support to school districts during crisis situations.

The NOVA Community Crisis Response Team Training program is widely recognized as one of the leading national certifications for crisis intervention. Developed by the National Organization for Victim Assistance, NOVA has provided advocacy, training, and crisis response services for victims of trauma and disaster since its founding in 1975. The training equips participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively respond to school, community, and organizational crises, including incidents involving violence, loss, and large-scale emergencies.

“This training was invaluable,” said Dr. Joe Fisher. “Our goal is to ensure that we are prepared to provide support not just within our own district, but anywhere in the state where students and schools are in need.” Ms. Penny Howard echoed this sentiment, adding, “As educators, we see firsthand how crises impact children and families. This training has equipped us with the tools to help our students and others navigate challenging circumstances.”

As certified crisis responders, Dr. Fisher and Ms. Howard will now be available to assist locally and across Arkansas when schools or communities experience critical incidents. Their expertise will serve as a vital resource to help schools respond effectively, ensuring safety, stability, and recovery for those affected. The Guy-Perkins School District is proud of this significant accomplishment and the dedication shown by its leadership to support not only their own community but others in need across the state.
