Suicide is a complex and heartbreaking reality that impacts countless lives each year. By raising awareness, educating ourselves, and fostering a culture of support, we can make a difference.
Awareness is the first step in prevention. Some warning signs of suicide include:
Withdrawal from friends, family, and activities once enjoyed.
Changes in behavior or mood such as increased irritability, sadness, or aggression.
Talking about death or hopelessness in conversation or on social media.
Giving away prized possessions or saying goodbye to loved ones.
Declining academic performance and loss of interest in schoolwork.
If you notice any of these signs in someone, it's essential to take them seriously. Engage in a compassionate conversation, and encourage them to seek help. A simple question like, “Are you okay?” can open the door to life-saving dialogue.
