Please join Guy-Perkins School District in welcoming Eric Lewis as the new Boys Basketball coach. Coach Lewis joins the district after serving three seasons as High School Assistant/Head Junior Varsity Basketball Coach at his Alma Mater, Vilonia High School. Prior to joining the Eagles coaching staff, Coach Lewis spent a year as head Junior Boys Basketball Coach at Grimsley Junior High School in Bentonville, and a year as Boys Assistant Basketball Coach at El Dorado.
Coach Lewis is a 2013 graduate of Vilonia High School. He earned his Bachelors of Science in Education from the University of Central Arkansas in 2019.
“Growing up in Vilonia, I always paid attention to the overall landscape of high school basketball in Arkansas. I knew Guy-Perkins was a small school in the area that had a great deal of success with both the boys and girls basketball programs. It is not every day that a school with double-digit state championships has an opening. Besides the great tradition, my visit at Guy-Perkins blew me away. The campus was incredibly well-kept, and I was very impressed with the facilities,” said Coach Lewis when asked what attracted him to apply for the Guy-Perkins opening. “My conversations with the administrators impressed upon me that my future co-workers are high character individuals.”
When asked about his immediate plans, Coach Lewis said that the first step is meeting with the parents and players to learn more about them and start building relationships. “My goal is to build a program around three pillars. One, we have to build a program that revolves around being great, young men. How are we behaving in class? How are we acting on the road? Is our locker room clean? Second, we will create a culture of toughness. We will prepare and show up to games with intensity and desperation each game. Lastly, we will have a big emphasis on social media. I want our athletic program to set the standard for sharing our identity, stories, and accomplishments.
Coach Lewis will be on campus Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm to meet parents and athletes. The Meet and Greet will be in Thunderbird Gym. All are welcome to attend.
