McKinney

The Guy-Perkins School District welcomes Ms. Susan McKinney as the new Co-Principal for Teaching and Learning (K-12) for the 2023-24 school year.  Across her 25 years in education, she has taught pre-school through sixth grade and served as a District Curriculum and Federal Programs Coordinator in the Hector School District; and worked as a Leadership, Curriculum, and Instructional Consultant with the Arkansas Public School Resource Center. Ms. McKinney currently is the Literacy Coach at Two Rivers School District (AR) and will join Mr. Tim Barnes, Co-Principal for Student Services, on the District's administration team.

When not working, Ms. McKinney likes reading and typically has several books going at the same time.  She also enjoys running, having completed many 5Ks, several long virtual races, and a 10K.  Additionally, Susan loves to cook and to bake, which giver her more motivation to workout!

Interesting fact: Ms. McKinney's mother (Mary McKinney) taught Special Education at Guy-Perkins High School in the late seventies to early eighties. She said she remembers coming to the school for Fall Festival as a child and has always held such a special place in her heart for the sense of "community" she felt.

Ms. McKinney add, "I am passionate about teaching and learning! My goal is to support the
faculty and staff in any way necessary to help our students reach their highest potential. I will work with the administration team, Dr. Fisher and Mr. Barnes, to continue the amazing work they have begun with Mrs.  Murry.  I am truly excited to be a Thunderbird!"  Susan's first day will be Monday, July 3, 2023.
