Snow Day Policy
SNOW/AMI DAY POLICY
During the last legislative session, laws were changed to allow for electronic snow day makeups. This policy is called Alternative Method of Instruction or AMI. Guy-Perkins School District was given approval by the Department of Education to use up to five (5) AMI days, with the option of getting approval for more if needed. Guy-Perkins School District’s primary concern is the safety of our students, parents, and staff. We believe that learning can take place anytime and anywhere. We are excited to use this new way of learning and teaching.
When we know ahead of time that we will have an AMI day, work will be sent home with students. Each teacher will also post lesson plans to their individual page on the school’s website. (Click either elementary or high school, click staff, click teacher name, click link to classroom page). Teachers will also be available to answer questions via email or Google classroom if applicable. For those students that do not have access to internet, written work will be available.
Most assignments will be able to be done on smartphones. If you do not have internet access at home, we ask you to contact your child’s teacher or the office. A list will be kept of those that will need paper-based assignments.
Student’s attendance will be taken based on the amount of work completed. Electronic assignments will be submitted prior to returning to school (unless otherwise specified by teacher). Paper assignments will be due the next day that school is physically in session.
HOW TO KNOW WHEN AMI DAY WILL BE USED
Days will be announced just like a regular snow day, but will be specified as an AMI day. An automated call will be made, posts will be made on the district’s Facebook page, and an alert will be sent out on the district’s smartphone app- (B-notified). As with a snow day, it will also be sent to the local news stations.
